Carlos Varona

Jiu-Jitsu Professor

Carlos is a 2nd degree Jiu-Jitsu black belt, who breathes Jiu-Jitsu and eats white belts for breakfast (its a joke, he’s actually 100% vegan). When he’s not rolling, he’s high on life and always in flow.

Carlos runs the The Flow Academy in Marbella, Spain. He currently has one affiliate school, on the Rota US navy military base. This is where Carlos started training Jiu-Jitsu with Team Choko in 2005.
He competed for the first time after 6 months training, and started teaching as a blue belt under Gracie Barra alongside his coach Vinnie Carlucci. He received his purple and brown belt from Pedro Sauer black belt Roland Malone Guiterrez. When he moved to the USA he joined Combat Athletics with Smiley, and received his black belt in 2011 by Edson Diniz (6,5 years after his first Jiu-Jitsu class).
Carlos was always one of the few light weights on the mats, so he had do develop a more techniqual Jiu-Jitsu game, which meant not just learning from his professors, but looking outside the dojo; countless hours of watching instructional videos from BJJ greats such as Marcelo Garcia and Robson Mura.
Today Carlos has developed a flow-style Jiu-Jitsu enables him to train 3-6 hours per day, six days a week.
Carlos is an inspirational BJJ practicioner, a top-level professor, a supportive coach and friend, who is currently exploring vanlife, breathwork, travelling and minimalism together his wife and their dog, Kimura.
